Starman 101 Part 3: With A Little Help From My Friends

Welcome Back to Starman 101. In Jack's mission to keep Opal City safe, he has found over the course of his story that he can't do it alone. One of the most well-connected and respected legacies in the DC comics universe, Jack meets up with a wide variety of friendly aquaintances both super-powered and not.

Jack's mentor through the series and one of the pimpest characters ever created is The Shade, a former Flash villian who vows to keep Opal safe (and he himself refuses to partake in crime in the Opal). He's an immortal nobleman with the power to control darkness and fear, and a total fucking badass. Besides Jack, he is hands down the coolest character in the series.
The O'Dares are a family of cops, and they aide Jack and Ted through the legality of superheroics. Basically they are to Jack as Commisioner Gordon is to Batman (though if he had like 7 Gordons).
Solomon Grundy aka Solly: A monstrous southern Zombie, who is reanimated in a different form everytime he dies. A Green Lantern villian, Solly becomes docile and befriends Jack. Most people remember Solly from Superfriends, famous for his line in the Cartoon Network commercial "Solomon Grundy want pants, too!". Who doesn't love Solly?
Jack isn't the only superhero who operates in Opal City, either. The first one is the Golden Age hero The Sandman, a guy with a gas mask and a gun full of knockout gas. One of my favorite comic book characters, he's just so badass. Really cool detective style stories, and his series Sandman Mystery Theatre is really good, too.

two more superheroes in Opal City are Elongated Man (Ralph Dibny). Black Condor, and Adam Strange. All three of them are awesome, especially Elongated Man (kind of like Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four).

And there is no way i can do a blog about Starman without including his allies in The Justice Society of America.

the villians are up next. Stay tuned, I'm almost done!
